Polymarket’s $4.3B World Cup market settles on Polygon, a record for on-chain predictions

-

Polymarket’s 2026 FIFA World Cup winner market on Polygon closed with $4.3 billion in trading volume, setting a record as the largest single on-chain prediction market. More than 300 prediction markets launched during the tournament, and every transaction settled on the Polygon network, highlighting growing adoption of blockchain-based settlement for real-world events. The milestone surpasses prior Polymarket records, including the 2024 U.S. presidential election market, which generated $3.7 billion.

Polygon has reached a new milestone in blockchain-based prediction markets after Polymarket’s 2026 FIFA World Cup winner market closed with $4.3 billion in trading volume. According to Polygon and Polymarket, the record-setting market was fully settled on Polygon, underscoring the network’s growing role as infrastructure for high-volume decentralized applications.

Polymarket operated more than 300 World Cup prediction markets during the tournament. The company described it as the largest single on-chain prediction market ever recorded, with every transaction settling on POL.

Polygon stated in its announcement, “Polygon is becoming the settlement layer for real world markets.” The company added that the milestone reflects growing adoption of blockchain infrastructure beyond cryptocurrency trading.

The latest record surpasses several previous high-profile prediction markets. According to Polymarket data, the 2024 U.S. presidential election winner market generated $3.7 billion in trading volume, while the Super Bowl LX winner market reached $1.2 billion.

Prediction markets rely on blockchain settlement to ensure transparency and publicly verifiable transactions. For POL, handling billions in transaction volume demonstrates the scalability of its proof-of-stake network.

Polymarket has become one of the most recognized decentralized prediction platforms, covering elections, sports, and economic events. The World Cup tournament significantly expanded user activity, generating record liquidity across the event.
