TRUMP Meme Coin Losses Top $3.2 Billion, Public Citizen Reports

-

Consumer advocacy group Public Citizen has reported that cryptocurrency ventures linked to Donald Trump and his family have resulted in at least $4.7 billion in losses for investors since 2022. The largest portion came from the TRUMP meme coin, accounting for an estimated $3.2 billion in losses. Other ventures include the WLFI token ($1 billion), Trump Digital Trading Cards ($9.3 million), and Trump Media’s digital-asset treasury ($450 million). Most losses remain unrealized. Trump is said to have made at least $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025 per his financial disclosure, though he reportedly did not invest his own money. Critics have raised conflict-of-interest concerns.

Public Citizen estimated that investor losses from the TRUMP meme coin have reached $3.2 billion. The token has lost over 97% of its value since its all-time high of $73 in January 2025.

US Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal have asked SEC Chair Paul Atkins to investigate the meme coin. They said it may have enabled fraud or unfairly enriched people at the expense of everyday investors.

Trump’s financial disclosure from June 2026 indicates he made at least $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025. Public Citizen noted the disclosure does not show he invested any of his own money in these ventures.

The White House has stated that neither the president nor his family have engaged or will engage in conflicts of interest. However, Public Citizen’s report said Trump continues to own and control his businesses through a revocable trust where he is the sole donor and beneficiary, with Donald Trump Jr. serving as sole trustee.

The push for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act has drawn criticism over the family’s financial ties to digital assets. Critics including Ben McKenzie and Chris Van Hollen warned the bill could leave loopholes allowing Trump to profit from his ventures.

Comedian and commentator John Oliver described crypto as “a perfect vehicle to funnel money” to the president’s family. He added that Trump is “exploiting crypto sketchiness for maximum profit.”
