Vietnam plans to launch its regulated cryptocurrency market in the third quarter of 2026, according to Deputy Finance Minister Nguyen Duc Chi. The framework aims to create a safer and more transparent trading environment as the country, ranked fourth globally in crypto adoption, advances new licensing and tax rules for domestic exchanges.
Vietnam is preparing to launch its regulated cryptocurrency market in Q3 2026. Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi announced the plan during the Digital Trust in Finance 2026 forum.
The government introduced a licensing pathway for domestic platforms earlier this year. Officials expect the first activities under the new rules to begin with a focus on transparency and investor protection.
In March, five Vietnamese companies reportedly passed the first qualification stage to operate a regulated exchange. The firms included affiliates connected to Techcombank, VPBank, LPBank, VIX Securities, and Sun Group.
Authorities drafted a tax regime for cryptocurrency transactions in February. The proposal included a 0.1% tax on every personal crypto transaction made via registered brokers.
According to the Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index 2025, Vietnam ranks fourth globally. The country held its position as Asia’s third-largest crypto market by on-chain transaction volume from January through June 2025, totaling approximately $200 billion.
A five-year crypto pilot program began in September 2025. The program requires transactions to be conducted in Vietnamese dong through locally registered organizations.
