Singapore’s largest bank, DBS Bank, will launch tokenized physical gold for retail customers via its digibank app in the second half of 2026. Each digital token will represent ownership of one gram of physical gold, lowering the entry barrier for investors. This move intensifies competition in Singapore’s tokenized asset market, where rival OCBC already operates a similar product.
DBS Bank is preparing to bring gold investing to a wider audience. The bank plans to launch DBS Tokenized physical gold through its digibank mobile app in the latter half of 2026.
Each token will represent ownership of one gram of physical gold. This lowers the entry barrier for investors who want exposure to gold but may not have the capital for larger quantities.
The initiative marks another step in bringing traditional assets onto blockchain networks. By turning gold into digital tokens, DBS aims to make investing more flexible and accessible.
The bank is adapting its existing bullion business for everyday investors. It expects tokenized physical gold to offer greater liquidity than traditional gold holdings stored in vaults.
However, important details remain unknown. DBS has not revealed which blockchain network will support the tokens or disclosed how custody, audits, or redemption will work.
The bank already has experience in digital assets. It launched the DBS Digital Exchange in 2021 and issued tokenized structured notes on Ethereum in 2025.
DBS enters a market that is becoming increasingly competitive. Earlier in 2026, OCBC launched GOLDX, a tokenized physical gold fund operating on both Ethereum and Solana.
For investors, transparency will be critical. They will want clear answers about who stores the gold, where it is held, and how reserves are verified.
Redemption policies will also be closely watched. Investors will want to know whether accumulated tokens can be exchanged for physical gold or if the product simply tracks its value.
As Singapore’s tokenization race accelerates, tokenized physical gold is emerging as a new bridge between traditional assets and blockchain technology.
