Former X head of product Nikita Bier has indicated that cryptocurrency trading could be coming to the social media platform. In a recent reply, Bier stated he built Cashtags for Solana and Ethereum charts, with trade buttons arriving soon. This feature aligns with Elon Musk’s vision of making X an ‘everything app’. The platform is also expanding its payments system, potentially including cryptocurrencies. Musk has previously enabled crypto payments for Tesla and SpaceX merchandise, and is a known fan of Dogecoin. Such integration could drive significant adoption in the crypto sector.
X’s previous head of product, Nikita Bier, recently replied to an X user who alleged that Bier was shadow banning a cryptocurrency-focused account. Bier stated: “What are you talking about? I literally built Cashtags, allowing people to add Solana and Ethereum charts directly into posts—with trade buttons coming soon.” He added that users can paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens.
This feature has long been teased by X employees, including owner Elon Musk. Bier posted earlier this year that the cryptocurrency market was struggling and asked if the platform should launch something to improve it. A trading option was likely what Bier was referring to. X has hundreds of millions of active users. If the platform begins to offer cryptocurrency trading, it could potentially lead to a massive adoption surge for the sector.
Musk has said he wants to make X an “everything app.” The platform’s plans to include cryptocurrency trading aligns with that initiative. X is also working on expanding access to its payments platform. Many hope the payments feature will include cryptocurrencies, though no official word exists. There is a high possibility cryptocurrencies will be part of payments, given that Musk has enabled crypto payments for other ventures like Tesla and SpaceX merchandise. Musk is particularly a fan of Dogecoin (DOGE), an asset he has endorsed on several occasions. Having both cryptocurrency payments and trading on X could potentially lead to a massive influx of crypto users and trigger a bullish outbreak for the sector.
